Beloit is a city full of historic charm peppered with cultural urban flair. With the Rock River running through the entire length of the historic city, adventure seekers are always in close proximity to outdoor attractions whether they are hiking, biking, boating, or flying over the Rock River Trail.
Beloit’s historically preserved downtown, with a decorative gantry and brick-paved main street, offers an exceptional array of boutiques, galleries, restaurants, coffee shops, a record store, and even an old-fashioned barber shop. Children are especially fond of the Flying Pig and Northwoods Premium Confections, both of which offer a variety of homemade popcorns, drinks, fudges, cookies, ice creams, candies, and chocolates.
Between the months of May and October, thousands of locals and visitors stream downtown each Saturday to experience the award-winning Farmers’ Market, showcasing nearly 100 vendors. This award-winning, open-air market is bursting at the seams with fresh produce, flowers, meats, cheeses, jewelry, kettle corn, pastries, and more! There’s always plenty of free parking and special events including live music, kid-friendly activities, and local food trucks.
Beloit also offers several cultural and historical attractions including the world-famous Angel Museum, home of the largest angel figurine collection which includes Oprah Winfrey’s donated collection of African-American angels, the Logan Museum of Anthropology, and the Wright Museum of Art, both of which are located on the grounds of the Beloit College—the oldest college in Wisconsin, and Beckman Mill, the state’s oldest, operating grist mill.
Beloit has been praised for its many festivals, and parades throughout the year, as well as the Beloit International Film Festival (BIFF), Winterfest, Autorama, and Music at Harry’s Place—a free summer concert series along the Rock River. Beloit is also home to a minor league baseball team, the Beloit Snappers, a Class-A affiliate of the Oakland A’s. Beloit is the only city in Rock County to receive an “All-America City” award and was named one of Travel & Leisure’s “Top 20 Greatest American Streets.”
For a day trip or for a long weekend getaway, Beloit offers many cultural, entertaining, and certainly scenic trips with the best in original dining, shopping, performing arts, and outdoor activities. Visitors are guaranteed to create memories that will last a lifetime.
