Meet at the southwest corner of the Janesville K-Mart at 8:30 am. From there, we will carpool and caravan for the 1 hour drive south to the Nachusa Grasslands Preserve in Illinois. Participants should pack a picnic lunch or bring money to purchase lunch and/or refreshments for sale at the site. We will be back to Janesville around 3-4pm.Every year, the Nachusa Grasslands holds a celebration of its outstanding prairie heritage site with a festival called Autumn on the Prairie. There will be guided tours of the prairie and savannas on this 2,000+ acre preserve, educational exhibits and self-guided tours. Participants can ride through the prairie on a horse-drawn wagon, listen to live music, see local artists work, and explore a children’s tent. The event is free and open to the public.
