Hotel Goodwin & Velvet Buffalo Café-Construction starting early 2018!
The building that is now home to Visit Beloit, Downtown Beloit Association (DBA), and Greater Beloit Economic Development Corporation (GBEDC) at 500 Public Avenue, will soon add Hotel Goodwin and Velvet Buffalo Café!
Named for the 19th-century Goodwin House that served as a luxury hotel in downtown Beloit until 1904, Hotel Goodwin will feature 34 guest rooms, including two suites and a fitness center, while also offering a rooftop meeting room with outdoor terrace.
The Café will combine the décor of a turn of the century European café with subtle contemporary nuances. The chef driven menu (lunch and dinner) will focus on local farmers and artisan vendors, all centered on a stone lined oven burning at 700 degrees The in-house Wine Bar will offer a carefully curated selection of wines by the glass from all parts of the globe as well as an extensive bottle list. Velvet Buffalo Café will be open 7 days a week. Velvet Buffalo Café will also provide in-room dining and catered events in the rooftop space at Hotel Goodwin. See full press release here.
Pedestrian Bridge-Now Open!
This foot-traffic-only bridge located behind Ironworks Hotel reaches across the river and connects pedestrians to the Ironworks campus and the city’s network of river trails. The Ironworks campus is home to several businesses including the Beloit Chamber of Commerce and the new Stateline Family YMCA.

This new 8,000 square foot, $11 million YMCA located in the Ironworks campus has two swimming pools, a gymnasium, an 8,000-square-foot fitness center, the Kerry Ingredients Room where cooking classes will be held, the Packard Family Day Care rooms, a walking-running track, a Beloit Health System sports medicine and physical therapy facility and more!
Ground was broken in October for G5 Brewing Company of Beloit. This brewery is a legacy project for a family of five Gunderson’s. It will be built in their hometown at 1801 Gateway Boulevard. Brewhouse consultant and nationally certified Master Beer Judge, Keith Symonds, was hired to help establish the G5 Brewing brand. The Gateway brewery will feature a 10-barrel brewing system, up to 10 regular and seasonal brews, and aims to grow by 10,000 barrels annually. The brewery and restaurant will collectively employ 50 to 70 full-time workers in a 9,750-square-foot facility. CTA Architects Engineers, based out of Montana, will head up the construction, which is a group that has built similar facilities in the past.
This café, located inside the Beloit Public Library, is a public-private partnership designed to support job and career training for Beloit Memorial High School students, offering on-the-job training. Aside from a cafe manager, the business will be staffed by fifteen students from the high school’s hospitality program. The partnership also could lead to business students getting involved on the marketing side of the café.
This 34.4-acre park and learning center combines hands-on learning in ecology and science with recreational hiking, biking, boating, and agility in the form of a ropes course.
At Ironworks Golf Lab, you can use of three simulators to improve your game or just have fun. The HD simulator lets you choose from 100 courses from around the world, and the other two simulators let you choose between golf or 14 other games, including hockey and zombie dodgeball! There are also adult beverages and snacks available. The golf lab is open 365 days a year!
The Powerhouse is a $38 million project that re-purposes the decommissioned Blackhawk Generating Station on the Rock River into a 130,000-square-foot student center to include a fitness center, pool, track, health & wellness center, meeting space, lecture hall and movie theater. Complete by Fall 2019.
